FAQ

Questions we get, answered straight

Twenty-six of them, including the awkward ones. If the honest answer is "nobody can tell you", that is the answer you will find here. Nothing on this page is dressed up: every figure is from a backtest, and every backtest figure is labeled as one.

The system

What TSOPEN actually is

What it trades, when it trades, and what it does on the days it decides to do nothing.

What exactly is TSOPEN?+

TSOPEN is an automated trading system (a trading bot) that runs inside NinjaTrader 8 on your own computer. It is a fixed set of rules for one job: reading US index futures in the 8:30 AM ET window and, when the read is clean, taking a single trade with the stop and the target already placed in the market. You buy the software once, install it, and it executes. It does not improvise, it has no opinion about the news, and it does not ask you anything while a trade is open.

What does it trade?+

US index futures, in micro contracts. Micros are the small versions of the standard index contracts, and they are what makes the risk on each trade manageable on an account of $50,000. It never holds a position overnight: whatever it opens in the morning is closed the same morning, at its target or at its stop, and the account ends the day flat.

Why does it only work one window a day, at 8:30 AM ET?+

Because that is where the behavior it was built on happens. At 8:30 AM ET the US economic data is released and the pre-open starts moving with intention, and that moment has a character the rest of the session does not have. A system tuned for one kind of market is not tuned for a different one, so trading more hours would not be trading more: it would be diluting the only thing the system is good at. One window, one decision, and the rest of the day is none of its business.

Does it trade every day?+

No. It looks every trading day and it takes a position only when the conditions it was built to recognize are actually there. Over the backtest period that adds up to 4,557 trades across 88 months, which is a large sample rather than a lucky streak, but it is spread unevenly: there are quiet weeks and there are busy ones. A day with no trade is not a day the system failed.

What happens when it does not see a clean setup?+

Nothing happens, and that is the point. It stays out, the account ends the day exactly where it started, and tomorrow it looks again. Staying out is a decision made with the same rules it uses to enter, not an error or a missed opportunity. The expensive habit in trading is taking the trade that is not there, and a machine is much better than a person at not taking it.

Can I change the parameters?+

The strategy arrives configured the way the published backtest was run, and that configuration is the one we support. You control what is yours (which account it is connected to, how many contracts it sends, whether it is enabled at all) and NinjaTrader will happily let you change the rest. Understand what you are doing if you do: the moment you change the internal settings, the report on the performance page stops describing the thing you are running. If you want to try a variation, run it in the Strategy Analyzer first and look at what it does to the drawdown, not just to the profit.

Results

The numbers, and what they are not

Everything published here is a backtest. That word carries weight, so here is exactly how much.

Are the numbers real, and how do I check them?+

They are real backtest numbers, which is not the same thing as real account numbers, and we say which one they are on every page. They come out of the NinjaTrader 8 Strategy Analyzer, a tool that ships with the platform and that anyone can run. You load the strategy, set the same period and the same account size, press start, and the same figures come out: $274,406 gross over 88 months on a $50,000 account. We would rather you reproduced it than believed us.

What does "hypothetical performance" mean?+

It means the trades in the report never happened with money in them. A backtest is the strategy replayed over historical data, so it is prepared with the benefit of hindsight, it involves no financial risk, and no simulation can fully account for real order execution, slippage or liquidity on the day it mattered. Frequently there are sharp differences between hypothetical results and the results a real account actually produces. The long version is on the risk disclosure page, and it is worth ten minutes of your time before you spend a dollar.

What is the worst drawdown?+

The largest peak-to-trough fall in the whole backtest is $4,379 on a $50,000 account. Drawdown is the number that tells you what you would have had to sit through on the way to the profit, and it is the one most sellers leave out, which is why we put it next to the profit everywhere. Read it honestly: it is the worst thing that happened in the simulated period, not a ceiling on what can happen next.

Why is the win rate under 50%?+

Because every entry aims for twice what it risks. With a target at 2× the risk you can be wrong more often than you are right and still finish ahead, and that is exactly what the report shows: a win rate of 46.2%, an average winner of $354 against an average loser of $193, and a profit factor of 1.58. In plain terms, it loses more often than it wins. You will have losing days and losing weeks, and that is what this system looks like when it is working correctly, not when it is broken.

What will I make?+

Nobody can tell you, us included, and anyone who does give you a number is selling you something. What we can tell you is what the backtest did (about $260,700 net over 88 months on a $50,000 account, after commissions) and that an average of a simulated past is not a forecast of your future. What you actually get depends on your account size, how many contracts you run, the market you happen to get, your fills, and whether you leave the thing alone. Run your own case in the calculator and look at the bad column, not the good one.

Getting started

What you need before you start

Short answer: a Windows computer, an internet connection and an evening. No experience, no code.

Do I need trading experience?+

No, and that is who this is built for. You do not pick a direction, you do not read a chart, you do not size a position and you do not touch anything while a trade is open. The setup guide takes you from a clean computer to a running system step by step. Understanding what the machine is doing is still worth your time (the guides are there for that), but it is not a requirement for it to work.

What computer do I need?+

A normal Windows computer that can run NinjaTrader 8, which is most computers sold in the last several years, plus a stable internet connection. The only real condition is that the machine has to be on and connected during the 8:30 AM ET window. If you cannot leave a computer running at home, a small VPS does the job for a few dollars a month and never sleeps. On a Mac you would need Windows in a virtual machine, which works but is one more thing to keep alive.

Do I need to code?+

Not a line. You import a file into NinjaTrader 8, paste your license key, and enable the strategy on a chart. That is the whole technical part, it is three steps with screenshots, and there is nothing to compile, configure or maintain afterward.

How long from buying to first trade?+

The license key is issued the moment the payment clears and the download is in your account area immediately, so the software side is minutes. Realistically, set aside an evening to install NinjaTrader 8, connect an account and load the strategy. The first trade then happens on the next session where the setup appears, which may be the next morning or a few days later. If you are going the funded route, add whatever the evaluation takes. That is the prop firm clock, not ours.

Can I run it in simulation first?+

Yes, and you probably should. NinjaTrader 8 is free for charting and simulation, and the system runs in a simulation account exactly the way it runs in a live one, so you can watch a few weeks of mornings without a dollar at risk. Be clear about what that proves: simulation will not reproduce real fills, so treat it as a rehearsal for you (checking the machine is on, the strategy is enabled, nothing is in the way) rather than as a test of the strategy.

License and account

How the license works

One payment, up to 3 computers, and no password to lose.

How many computers can I use it on?+

Up to 3 at the same time. Each computer running the system takes one seat, identified by a fingerprint of the machine, and the number of seats is chosen when you buy: one comes with the license and the extra ones are a one-time addition priced at checkout. Seats are for your own computers (a desktop and a laptop, or a home machine and a VPS), not for sharing a key with other people.

What happens if I reformat my computer or change machines?+

Nothing you have to worry about. A seat that has not checked in for 21 days releases itself automatically, so a dead hard drive never costs you a seat. And you do not have to wait that long: your account area lists every machine currently using the license and lets you release one yourself, right there, and reuse it on the new computer a minute later.

Is it a subscription?+

No. It is one payment of $997 and the license is yours. No monthly fee, no annual renewal, no higher tier that unlocks the part that actually works. If an installment plan is offered at checkout, that is the same total price split into scheduled payments, not a subscription, and the license is still yours once the plan is paid.

Do I get updates?+

Yes. When we release a new version of the product you bought, it appears in your account area and you download the file and load it the same way you loaded the first one. You are on version 1.0 today. What we will not promise is that an update will ever turn this into a different system: if we build something materially different, that is a different product, not a free upgrade, and we will say so plainly rather than quietly.

How do I sign in?+

There is no password, on purpose. You type your email, we send you a six-digit code, you type the code and you are in. The code is good for a few minutes and for one use. It means there is no permanent secret of yours sitting in our database, no password you reused somewhere else that can fail here, and no "I forgot my password" to deal with, because there is nothing to forget.

Money and capital

What it costs to run

The software is one number. The capital you trade with is a separate decision, and the more important one.

How much money do I need to start?+

Two separate costs. First the software: $997, once. Then the capital route. With a funded account your outlay is the evaluation fee, around $100 for a 50k account, and your own savings never go into the market. With your own account you need whatever margin your broker requires for the micro contracts the system trades, plus a real cushion on top so that a bad run does not put you on the phone with the margin desk. The calculator runs both for your numbers.

Funded account or my own account?+

A funded account caps what you can lose at the evaluation fee, which is why most people start there, and the discipline those firms demand (few trades, controlled risk, no overnight positions) is what this system does by design. The trade-off is that you live by their rules: daily loss limits, trailing drawdowns, payout schedules, and accounts that get consumed. In the last 7 months of the backtest roughly 7 accounts were used up, about $700 in fees. Your own account has no rules but yours and no profit split, and your money is genuinely at risk. The funded capital page lays out the fine print, including the parts nobody advertises.

Do you take a share of my profits?+

No. You buy software, and that is the whole relationship. There is no profit split, no management fee, no performance fee and no monthly cut. We never touch your broker or your funded account, we cannot place an order in it and we cannot see your trades, so there is nothing for us to take a share of. If a prop firm keeps a percentage of what you make, that is their contract with you, not ours.

Is there a refund?+

The license key is issued the instant the payment clears, and the software comes with it, so sales are final once the key has been issued, with the exceptions we spell out: a duplicate charge, a technical failure that stops the install and that support cannot resolve, or a purchase reported as a mistake before the key has been used. The whole policy, including how to ask and how long it takes, is on the refund policy page. If you are on the fence, read the performance and risk pages and ask us before you buy, not after.

How do I get support?+

Through the contact form, which is the only door in. We do not publish an email address, there is no phone number, and there is no salesperson waiting to call you back. Your message becomes a ticket with a reference, a person answers it, and you can follow the thread with the link you get by email or from your account area. Before buying, after buying, and when something breaks: same form.

Still not answered

Ask the question that is not here

The contact form is the only way in, and that is deliberate: your message becomes a ticket with a reference instead of an email that somebody may or may not read. A person answers it, before you buy as well as after. If you would rather keep reading first, the numbers are on the performance page and the honest version of the risk is on the risk page.
